Deschamps was best known for his landscape paintings. His subject was often the South of France and his style is extraodinarily fresh, conveying the atmosphere and light of the Mediterranean region. He studied at L'École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Starting in 1939, he became a State art professor and entered his work in the Salon d' Automne and in the Salon des Indépendants in Paris. His work is in important private collections in New York, London, Switzerland, Monaco and Paris.
