Pignot was born near Caen, the capital of Normandy. He continues to live in the region, now calling the 12th century port of Honfleur his home. The vast majority of his paintings are of this area. As a plein-air painter, he also worked in Holland, Venice, Paris and the south of France. He is considered a contemporary impressionist with a strong sense of atmosphere and light. He has exhibited his works throughout France as well as in Palm Beach and Houston.
