Annotated in blue ink with "Marc Chagall - Le Cheval Rouge" in the lower right and "Guy Spitzer - Editeur Paris" in the lower left. image size: 17 1/4" x 20 7/8"; Sheet size: 22" x 27 1/4" The 1945 painting upon which this lithograph is based is also called "La luge dans la neige" (The sleigh in the snow) and is illustrated in Meyer 735, page 758. Guy Spitzer was a Parisian publisher renown for producing prints of the highest quality. Spitzer sought permission to make lithographs of paintings in collaboration with many famous 20th century artists including Picasso, Braque, and Chagall, among others. Upon the artist’s approval of the proofs, the printed editions were hand signed and numbered by the artist. |
