This 1908 print is the last completed work of the "Peasants’ War" cycle. Kollwitz portrays the anti-climactic ending with the defeated peasant men herded together, awaiting torture and execution. This image is haunting in that it is possible to see how history repeats itself. The prisoners in this image could depict the Nazis’ captives being herded into concentration camps only thirty years later.
