Pg.42 Kurt Seligmann,( originally from Basel, Switzerland), was born in the year 1900. He was a master of the engraver's art who emerged in Paris in the 1930's. He made his first recorded print in 1918. He did not enter the domain of surrealist's prints until the late 1920's, when he arrived in Paris. When World War ll broke out, Seligmann moved to the United States. He set up presses first in New York City and then on his farm in Sugar Loaf, New York, printing not only his own work but occasional prints for visiting friends as well, including Alexander Calder, Masson, Tanguy and many of the arists that left Paris during the war. |
